Before you buy a MacBook, you should think about these seven drawbacks.

The Apple MacBook is a lot of people’s preferred choice of laptop for a lot of different reasons. Apple’s MacBooks have a reputation for being dependable and high-quality laptops among consumers. These Apple-made products are renowned for their streamlined aesthetics, cutting-edge technologies, and dependable in-house software and hardware. In addition, the high cost of a MacBook gives the user a certain level of status in their industry.

Despite this, the MacBook is not an entirely flawless piece of portable computing equipment. The disadvantages of purchasing this laptop should be carefully considered by everyone who is interested in making the purchase.

The following paragraphs will provide a description of certain drawbacks associated with the MacBook, which you should take into consideration when deciding whether or not the MacBook is suitable for your needs.

1. Expensive

Although MacBooks, like other Apple products, come with a variety of impressive features, the price tag for purchasing one might be prohibitive.

An M1 processor, 8 gigabytes of random access memory (RAM), 256 gigabytes solid state drive (SSD), and a 13-inch screen are included in the base model of the MacBook Air, which begins at IDR 16 million. To purchase a MacBook Pro with the most basic features, which include an M1 CPU, 8 GB RAM, 256 GB SSD, and a 13-inch screen, you will need to set aside a minimum of IDR 20 million in your budget. If you want additional RAM, a solid-state drive (SSD), and a larger screen, you should prepare to pay more money.

Because of its high price, the MacBook can understandably only be obtained by a select group of people. You can, in point of fact, get a Windows laptop with more potent hardware for the same price as a Mac laptop.

2. The MacBook M1 processor is not capable of running Windows.

Boot Camp is a software that enables owners of older MacBooks with Intel processors to install Windows operating systems on their computers. Users are able to get the most possible benefit from both of these operating systems, namely Windows and macOS.

However, more recent models of the MacBook employ the M1 chip rather than an Intel processor. The MacBook M1 does not have support for the Windows operating system, despite the fact that it is far more powerful when running macOS.

It is true that Apple has, for the last year, made it possible for the Windows operating system to function on the MacBook M1 by using a few workarounds; but, doing so requires the use of third-party software and is not as straightforward as it once was.

3. Fewer available alternatives for storage

If you require a big number of computers with plenty of storage space, you should give serious consideration to purchasing a MacBook. Because the MacBook is not intended to store significant quantities of data, and the pricing reflects this limitation, the answer is “because.”

The SSD storage space that comes standard on the MacBook Air with a price tag of IDR 16 million is just 256 GB, which is a fairly low amount in comparison to other brands. If you invest that money in a laptop running Windows, you will be able to get a device that has a much larger amount of storage space.

In the meanwhile, if you want a MacBook with larger storage space, for example 512 gigabytes or one terabyte, you will have to shell out a considerable amount of more cash.

4. A resolution of the webcam that is not up to par

The MacBook, which is considered to be a premium class of laptops, has a camera that has a poor quality. This is surely another one of this laptop’s flaws. Webcams on MacBooks typically have a resolution of 720p. It’s really not that horrible, but considering the high price and value, I wouldn’t recommend purchasing it.

In recent times, there has been an increase in the amount of focus placed on the quality of webcams. This is due to the fact that, since since the COVID-19 epidemic, an increasing number of individuals are working and studying remotely and relying on online videos to contact with each other. It is regarded frustrating that the camera on the MacBook has such a low resolution given the expensive price of the device.

5. A limited number of available ports

The most recent iteration of the MacBook is always followed by a decrease in the number of available ports on the device. Because some MacBooks, for instance, only have a USB-C port, users should always have a multiport with them in case they need to use a port other than USB-C, such as HDMI or USB-A.

In point of fact, Apple is now in the process of putting back key crucial connectors, such as the HDMI port, SD card slot, and MagSafe port on the 14-inch and 16-inch variants of the MacBook Pro, which makes it a lot simpler. On the other hand, it is still unknown what course of action Apple will follow in the future with regard to the quantity and variety of ports that it will continue to support.

6. There are little opportunities for hardware upgrades.

Another one of the MacBook’s shortcomings is that it cannot be upgraded in terms of its hardware. Apple’s hardware philosophy is to have a closed system, and this idea is represented in the company’s products, which do not let consumers to change their hardware.

Because the CPU and memory are both incorporated into a single printed circuit board, there are very few, if any, opportunities for upgrades. Apple even employs a specialized screw to prevent customers from accessing the inside components of their MacBooks. Consequently, if you wish to expand the amount of RAM or storage space on your computer, you need get a new MacBook.

7. A lack of support for various forms of gaming activity

Because of Apple’s closed environment, there is fewer software that can run on macOS. And when it comes to gaming, the MacBook is still a long way behind the competition.

This makes perfect sense when one considers that the primary purpose of a MacBook is not gaming but rather office work, productivity, and creative endeavors. In addition, the release of some games for MacBooks is often slower than it is for gaming consoles or desktop computers running Windows. As a result, if you want a laptop that can keep up with your gaming needs, a MacBook is probably not the ideal option for you to go with.

Although the MacBook does have a few flaws, this does not indicate that purchasing this laptop is a waste of money when one takes into account the numerous benefits offered by this Apple-made product. It’s only that by being aware of the MacBook’s flaws, I hope you’ll have a better notion of whether or not this laptop will be able to fulfill your requirements and whether or not the amount of money you will pay will be justified by what will be provided to you.
